Graphic design is becoming a bigger part of broadcast news. As a producer, I personally order several graphics a day to make my show look cooler, and to better tell my stories. I order monitor graphics, fullscreens, maps and quotes. I also order stingers to help brand my stories, and clips to promote my station.
MGFX is one example of a graphic design company. They create graphics for Media General stations. You can can learn how to create your own graphics using software like Adobe After Effects. But even if you’re not interested in creating graphics yourself, it’s still important to have a good eye for graphics so you can delegate it to a graphic design artist. Check out MGFX’s reel for some inspiration.
